Leadership skills are vital in any organization. However, toxic behaviors can disrupt good leadership. Toxic behaviors can include bullying, harassment, and threatening behavior.
Leaders who suffer from these types of behaviors may not be able to motivate their employees or lead a productive team. Toxic behaviors can also damage the relationship between leaders and their employees.
Employees may feel unsupported and believe that their leader is not capable of managing them effectively.
Leadership is not about being the boss. It is about inspiring and motivating people to do their best work. One of the most important aspects of being a leader is to be able to manage people and get them on board with your vision.
The 3 toxic behaviors that disrupt good leadership are bullying, micromanaging, and passive-aggressive behavior.
1) Bullying: It is never okay for someone to bully others in the workplace. This includes both physical and emotional bullying. Bullying is often a sign that the person who does it doesn’t have any self-confidence and uses it as a way to feel better about themselves.
2) Micromanaging: Micromanaging is when someone becomes overbearing and excessively controlling. This prevents employees from feeling like they have any autonomy or independence, which can lead to them feeling like they don’t want to work at all.
3) Passive Aggressive Behavior (PBA): is when people communicate negative feelings in an indirect manner such as being late for meetings or forgetting about deadlines, being uncooperative, evasive, sullen, and/or unhelpful without openly expressing anger.
Leaders are creators of human energy. Leaders ennoble people to follow them and sacrifice towards a purpose or a goal that is common to all and especially to the organization. They instill a virtue of a worthy purpose. Good leaders have humility. It is the lubricant that facilitates learning and growth.
